OWednesday, April 11, 2007,
The Harvard Independent Film Group will screen CHECKERS starring Richard Herd, written and directed by Bob Hummer, and produced by Stanley Livingston. The Event is open to the public.

In CHECKERS a father (Richard Herd) makes a surprise visit to Los Angeles to drop in on his forty-something sons. It is immediately apparent that Dad is less-than-welcome as he is quickly bounced from household to household. His four highly dysfunctional sons play a game of human 'hot potato' with Dad as they humorously shirk the responsibility of spending time and dealing with dad. A dark family secret lies at the bottom of all this turmoil.

CHECKERS stars veteran actor Richard Herd, who has played memorable roles in Seinfield, Seaquest, and Star Trek as well as many films. Director Bob Hummer is an award winning playwright and actor who has worked with John Cassavetes and John Pappas. Producer Stanley Livingston is best known as “Chip” on My Three Sons, one of television’s longest running shows.

Also screening is PLUCK, written by Dore Hammond, co-produced and co-directed by Dore Hammond and Richard Atkinson. A forty-five minute documentary about New York City in the 1950s through the early 1960s, the film sings the praises of the people who contributed to the culture of the city and to the world. New York’s varied cultural life during this decade is explored by Hammond’s personal interviews of notable New Yorkers William F. Buckley Jr., Dick Hyman, Betty Comden, Magnum photographer Burt Glinn, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Eileen Ford, and others. Their reflections and unique achievements are interwoven with “Firing Line”™ footage, Dick Hyman’s piano homage to Art Tatum, and private and public archives that chronicle their achievements.

Now in its ninth year, the Harvard Independent Film Group is an association of Harvard / Radcliffe graduates who work in the entertainment business.
